June (Armstrong) Costa, 89 of Vineland, died Sunday, June 17, 2012 at Genesis of Millville, after a lengthy illness with her family at her side. Born in Pittsburgh, Pa., she was a resident of Vineland since 1944. June was the daughter of the late Ralph and Olive Armstrong and the wife of the late Joseph Costa, married for 59 years. June was long time member of the congregation of the South Vineland United Methodist Church. She was recently honored for being such a member of more than 50 years. Although blind since the age of 4, June raised five children. In 1962 June received the honor of being named Queen Mother for her outstanding contribution and devotions to the ideal of motherhood. June was also an honorary center representative for the Margaret Winchester Enrichment Center for the Blind where she was a member for more than 10 years. She worked for the Commission of the Blind sewing aprons, assembling wallets and caning chairs. She also received a certificate for completing an Afghan Project. She is predeceased by her husband, Joseph Costa in 2006, 1 brother, Ralph Armstrong, 1 sister, Ellen Harris and 2 grandchildren, Joey and Nicholas Costa. Survived by: 1 daughter: Kathleen Costa of Franklinville 4 sons: Anthony Costa & wife Gail of Pennsville Joey Costa & wife Cecelia of Valdese, NC Rocco Costa & wife Susan of Franklinville Walter Costa & wife Prudence of Vineland 10 grandchildren: Carol, Tony, Joelle, John, Mike, Angelo, Joell, Lisa, Walt, and Stephanie 13 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services and burial at Greenwood Memorial Park, Millville were held privately with the family. In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations be made to the South Vineland United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 2323 Vineland, NJ 08362. A special thanks to the staff of Genesis of Millville for the kind and compassionate care given to our mom. Arrangements are by DeMarco-Luisi Funeral Home 2755 S. Lincoln Ave., Vineland.
