Obituary of Mary E. Scavelli

Mary Evelyn (Jarrell) Scavelli, 90, of Newfield, NJ, went to her heavenly home on February 25, 2025, following an extended illness.

She was born in August of 1934 in Nixville, South Carolina. Mary was the oldest of nine children. Following graduation from high school she completed business college in Savannah, Georgia. During this time, she met her future husband, John Scavelli, while he was stationed in Savannah (Navy). They were married five months after they met. After marrying, they headed north to settle in Franklin Township and were married 44 years. Mary is preceded in death by her husband, John Scavelli, two brothers, and a sister.

For many years she was employed by Maurelli's Furniture Store in Minotola, NJ as their bookkeeper. Mary loved spending time with family, cooking, baking, reading and writing poetry. She was involved in church activities such as teaching Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. Her faith in God was an anchor throughout her lifetime. Mary was a kind, peaceful, and gentle person. She had a loving, listening ear.

She is survived by her three children, Judith (Joe) Napoli, Sally Cottrell, and John Scavelli, Jr. (Danielle). Surviving grandchildren include Jennifer (Angel), Joshua, Elyssa (Stephen), Joseph, Jr., Johnne, Jane, Jordan (Amanda) and Emily (Jimmy). She also leaves behind four great grandsons, Dylan, Dominic, Rowan and Carson; four brothers; one sister; many cousins; nieces; nephews; two aunts; and one uncle.

Relatives and friends will be received on Tuesday, March 4, 2025, from 10:00am until 11:30am at DeMarco-Luisi Funeral Home, 2755 S. Lincoln Ave., Vineland, followed by a funeral service at 11:30am. Burial will follow in Piney Hollow United Methodist Church Cemetery.
