Obituary of George A. Cornish Sr.

Please share a memory of George to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

George A. Cornish, Sr., age 78, affectionately known as "Mr. Boogaloo" of Vineland, NJ was born April 21, 1946. He transitioned unexpectedly on Feb. 25, 2025, with his children present at Inspira Hospital Vineland Campus. He was born in Bridgeton, NJ, raised in Port Norris, NJ, and graduated Millville High School, Class of 1964.

He is survived by his children George Cornish, Jr. (Brandie), Dr. Kelly Cornish, Brent Pettit, and Marquise Cisrow; 13 grandchildren, Georgie Cornish III (Ezmee), Synquis Hart (his darling), Aiyana Cornish, Tiara Cisrow, Dan Nichols Jr. (Nicole), Tyriq Cornish, Reginal Thompson, Jr. (Serena), Taylin Thompson, Nevaeh Nichols, Olivia Cisrow, Amani Cornish, and Terrynce Cornish; and six great grandchildren Shia Cornish (his birthday buddy), Madden Iaconelli, Easton Cornish, Dan Nichols III, Kai'noa Cornish, and Ezrah Townsend-Thompson; his sisters, Gertrude (Trudi) Cornish, Renee Cornish, Rose Showell, and Dr. Maxine Sample; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

George was known for his unwavering work ethic, dedicating over 45 years to Wheaton Glass and Gerresheimer, where he retired as a supervisor. He was dependable, a steadfast provider, known for his unwavering resilience, a man of remarkable strength, and a fierce competitor. His athletic ability was evident from his days as the fastest high school runner in New Jersey and accomplishments as a football player. He remained active throughout his life by enjoying bowling, softball, shooting pool, and working out. Even when he couldn't participate, he was a devoted sports fan to a wide array of sports. He also found joy in racing cars and riding motorcycles, music, and in his exceptional guitar playing skill, loving to play the blues.

George's playful melodies, smooth side step, and infectious laughter brought smiles to everyone around him. His ornery charm, quick wit, and playful nature were eagerly anticipated by family and friends, and left a lasting impression on everyone. Above all, he cherished his grandchildren, as they were his greatest source of joy, the little sparkle in his eyes. Whether he was showing off his strength, doing magic tricks, playfully trash-talking about sports, or even teasing them by taking their bottles making them "cry babies," Pops loved interacting with them.

He is predeceased by his father, John E. Cornish, Sr., mother Lydia Mae Cornish (Douglas), wife Joan Cornish, son Bob Cisrow, brothers Joseph Cornish, John Cornish, Samuel Cornish, Thelbert Cornish, Howard Cornish, and sisters Cora Cornish and Mary Carmichael.

Friends and family will be received on Saturday, March 8, 2025, from 10:00 am until 12:00 pm followed by a funeral service at 12:00 pm at DeMarco-Luisi Funeral Home, 2755 S. Lincoln Ave. Vineland, NJ. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family.
