Obituary of John L. Cerana

John L. Cerana, 98, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Thursday morning, October 18, 2018. He was born in Midvale, Ohio, where he met his wife, Augusta (Chini) Cerana, of 75 years. He and Augusta raised three children and moved their family to Vineland, New Jersey in 1960, where they resided for 66 years. John was known as a hard-working individual. He spent 26 years working in Ohio coal mines. During that time, John served three years in the United States Army, two of which were served in active duty. His unit of service was Company K 376th, Infantry 94th Division, serving in World War II. He continued his career after moving to Vineland, New Jersey, working 22 years at Kimble's Glass, until he retired in 1982. John was a member of the North Italy Benevolent Association. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, crabbing, clamming, gardening, and working in the yard. He also made certain to spend time with all of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. John is survived by his son, John R. Cerana (Carol); daughter, Linda Barth (Joseph); son, Randy Cerana (Dawn); brother, Robert Cerana (Ardeth); sister, Sara Metzger (Ben); sister-in-law, Hilda Stringari; grandchildren, Rodney Cerana (Meryl), Tracey Wittenberger (John), Kimberly Carluzzo (Jim), Kyle Cerana and Kerry Cerana; great-grandchildren, Grace Cerana, Lucy Cerana, Emily Cerana, Dominic Cerana and Aubrey Wittenberger and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He is predeceased by his wife, Augusta (Chini) Cerana; father, Pio Cerana; mother, Amelia (Bertollini) Cerana; brothers and sisters-in-law, Leo (Betty), Louis (Ruth), Lester (Faye) and Pete (Norma); sisters and brothers-in-law, Clara Paina (Ed), Margaret Lena Cox (Alfred) and Lenora Lenzo (Carl) and grandson, Brian Peterson. The family would like to thank the staff at NJ Veterans Memorial Home of Vineland. At the request of the family, the services will be private.
