To the Barruzza and Baker Families,
I am so sorry to read of Susan's passing.
We attended St. Francis of Assisi School for together for 8 years. She was bright, charismatic and her voice was always beautiful!! We also sang together in the Sacred Heart Choir for a few years. It was always nice to see her there and again hear her voice!
May the precious memories of your Wife, Mother, Daughter and Sister sustain you in the days and weeks to come. I will pray that God provides peace and comfort during this difficult time. Please accept our deepest sympathies.

Mrs. Barruzza, as I knew her, was my teacher in 7th and 8th grade at D'Ippolito Intermediate School in the early 2000s. I remember her kindness and the way we could discuss books, how she constantly motivated me to write and to laugh and to talk about my opinions on literature. She introduced me to many wonderful stories, including Walk Two Moons and The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle. Her lightheaded rants of grammar, concerned words like "mad" and "uncouth," have stuck with me throughout my life. In 12th grade, when I was in the Shakespeare Festival at Wallace School, I went to visit her. The instant she saw me, she grasped my hands and said, "I barely recognized you! You look so different!" But then she smiled at me, and I could see she was proud. We met again at the YMCA, and she took a yoga class I was teaching, and she wished me luck. I never knew she was sick. To me, she was always one of my favorite teachers and a lifelong inspiration. Knowing she is gone will make me miss her even more. I am glad I got to learn from her, and her memory will live on in my mind, my heart, and my stories.
Thank you for everything.

Mrs. Barruzza was one of the kindest teachers to me at dippolito...she had more faith in me and encouraged me to do better and knew how great I could be. Truly cared for her students is an understatement. Was privileged enough to see her when picking my youngest brother up from Wallace when it replaced “Dippy” as we called it and she still had the bright smile and warm heart years later. Worst thing a student can hear from a teacher is you’ll never make it and sadly I’ve heard it more then once and she smiled so big when she knew I made it. God bless her and her family...thank you for everything

I vividly remember the passion I developed for English as a student of Mrs.Baruzza's while being at Wallace. I was a member of the first 8th grade class to attend as we had been transferred from Dippolito. Her energy and charisma were amazing and were a big impact in what made me grow from hating writing. I truly hope that she rests in peace and send my deepest condolences to her family as they mourn their loss.
