Wayne Giglio, 56
General Mills/Progresso Employee
After a valiant struggle with cancer Wayne surrendered to his illness and passed from this life on Tuesday February 28 with his wife and children at his bedside. His last days were made comfortable through the kindness and care of the staff of South Jersey Healthcare Hospice in Bridgeton.
Born in Vineland, Wayne made his home here for all his life. He graduated from Sacred Heart High School in 1974 and soon after married his childhood sweetheart, Vera. Wayne and Vera have shared their married life for 32 years. Wayne made his career in the gaming industry. His career of nearly 30 years started at The Sands Casino, Playboy Casino, and then finally The Taj Mahal. He left the Casino and became the primary care giver for his mother during her illness which eventually claimed her life. The time Wayne spent giving loving attendance to his mother was one of the most meaningful experiences of his life. Before his illness Wayne was employed at General Mills/Progresso in Vineland.
Wayne always delighted in spending time with his family. One of his most anticipated events was the annual Giglio Family Sauce Party where the whole family gathered to make and jar their homemade tomato sauce. Wayne had a passion for the days of the past when muscle cars were all the rage and joyfully attended all the local classic car shows. He was equally fond of old movies and enjoyed watching with his wife movies with stars such as James Cagney, Humphrey Bogart, Paul Newman and Robert Redford but held John Wayne above all other stars. He had a special fascination for military aircraft and attended the local air shows whenever he could. A loyal fan of all the Philly sports teams, he and his son Justin went to Philly to see the games often. He also had a great enthusiasm for motorcycles having owned a Harley Sportster and a Triumph Bonneville Chopper.
Wayne was pre-deceased by his parents Frank and Doris Giglio and most recently by his brother Ronald Giglio.
He is deeply mourned and will be sadly missed by his loving wife Vera (Reader), his son Justin and daughter Renee all of Vineland, his sister and brother-in-law Geri and Bill Hodges of Absecon and sister-in-law Mary Frances Giglio of Florida.
