Jose Michael "Cheesesteak" Bernard, 36, of Vineland, NJ, left this life on July 30, 2020 at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Camden, NJ.
Jose was born in Vineland, NJ to Judith A. Cruz (Viera) on September 14, 1983. He went to New Jersey Youth Challenge Academy and graduated in 2002. He worked at Sinclair Moving and Storage for 8 years. He enjoyed playing dominoes, fishing, and made a mean sandwich. He was a devout Dallas Cowboys and Philadelphia Phillies fan, as well as a boxing aficionado.
Jose met his wife, Shirley, at the "ripe age" of 15 their freshman year of high school. They celebrated their marriage October 25, 2003. Jose was known to be the goofball of the party and always took the challenge of any dare proposed by his best friends. He was proud to be a part of the hometown crew for Sinclair, known as the "Vineland Boys."
Jose is survived by his wife, Shirley Gonzalez-Bernard; his five sons, Jose M. "JJ" Bernard Jr. (16), Jason Bernard (15), Julian "Juju" Bernard (14), Lucas "Lucee" Bernard (13), and Anthony Bernard (12) of Vineland, NJ; his mother, Judith A. Cruz (Viera); his brothers, Anthony Viera and Edwin Andino; his sisters, Wanda, Tanya and Joanna; brother, Manuel Bernard; his loving brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews, and his father and mother in-law.
He is preceded in death by his chosen brother Carlos "Chachi" Rodriguez, III.
Family and friends will be received on Monday, August 3, 2020 from 6pm to 8pm with a funeral service at 7:30pm at the DeMarco-Luisi Funeral Home 2755 S. Lincoln Ave., Vineland. Burial will be private.
