Marlene Marie (Mogar) Smith, 72, of Newfield, NJ passed away Feb. 5, 2021, with her family by her side after battling a long, hard fight with metastatic breast cancer. Marlene was born to the late Charles and Mary Mogar, Sr. on Feb. 9, 1948, in Woodbury, NJ. Marlene graduated from Clearview High School in 1966 and was married to James R Smith, Sr. Marlene and Jim met on a blind date on her birthday in 1973, and got married seven months later, on Sept. 29, 1973. They celebrated 47 years of life together. Marlene worked at Glassboro State College (Rowan University) from 1967-1975, returning there in 1988 until she retired in 2001. Marlene and Jim lived in Malaga, NJ before moving into their Newfield home of more than 30 years in 1978. Marlene was a member of the Catholic Church in Malaga and later Newfield. She visited many Catholic churches across the country during her life. Marlene was a member of the National Orchid Society, loved all holidays, enjoyed spending time with her family, baked delicious Christmas cookies and she loved to dance. Marlene and Jim were full time RVers and enjoyed their travels together. Marlene was a devoted mother and wife, a great friend, a strong, caring, loving woman and will truly be missed. Marlene is survived by her loving husband James R Smith, Sr., her three children Michele Hunsicker(Jonathan,Jr), Jaclyn Mariano(Fiode,III), James R Smith, Jr.(Katie Wyld) and 5 grandchildren. Marlene is also survived by her sister Theresa (Mogar) Gannon, and two brothers Raymond Hutchinson and Michael Mogar, and many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her two brothers Charles Mogar, Jr & Donald Mogar. We will always carry your memory in our hearts. Funeral services will be private. Burial will be held at Gloucester County Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Williamstown, NJ.
