Obituary of Edward J. Hurban

Edward Joseph Hurban Sr. "Eddie" of Vineland, NJ passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at home on March 7, 2021. Ed was born in Dorothy, NJ in 1931 and moved to Minotola, NJ in 1946. He was a lifelong resident of Vineland, NJ until his death. He was the son of Lillian and Joseph Hurban. He was a 1949 graduate of Vineland High School and Coyne Electric of Chicago. Ed was an Airman 1st Class based out of Lake Charles Louisiana during the Korean Conflict serving under General Curtis LeMay with the 656th Bomber Squadron, 68th Bomber Wing (SAC). In the Air Force, Ed was a crew chief for B-29 bombers. He and his crew had the responsibility of maintaining their engines. As such, he flew to airbases across the US keeping these planes in combat ready condition. He was a lifelong member of St. Padre Pio Parish, St. Mary's Catholic Church in East Vineland, where he and his wife Joan were married in 1955. He had great devotion to St. Padre Pio. He was employed by NJ Bell for 36 years starting as a lineman moving thru the ranks to Operations Supervisor, retiring in 1991. He was a member of the Telephone Pioneers and American Legion Post 270. Ed loved his wife and family dearly. He especially enjoyed family gatherings and holidays. His love of the outdoors led him to become an avid rabbit and pheasant hunter with his sons and grandsons. He also enjoyed crabbing and fishing. Whenever he had free time he could be found doing projects around their home. He also enjoyed reading Civil War and World War II history. He and his wife Joan enjoyed hiking, biking and skiing at their Pocono home. He also traveled with his wife and children throughout the United States and Canada visiting most of the National Parks. Some of his favorite places were New England in the fall, the Rocky Mountains and the Grand Tetons. Ed was predeceased by his sister, Josephine Badaracco and brother, Fred Hurban, brothers-in-law, Edwin Bergamo and Jim Cowan, Sr., sisters and brothers-in-law, Viola and Arthur “Boots” Smaniotto and Mary Ann and Bill Dougherty. Beloved husband of 66 years to Joan (Bergamo); loving father of Eddie Hurban (Joyce), Karl Hurban (Laurie) and Karin Peszka (Andy); grandfather of Eddie, Doug (Christine), Nicole, Karl, Ben and Anna; sisters-in-law, Elaine Cowan, Marie Hurban and Anne “Billie” Bergamo and many loving nieces and nephews. Family and friends will be received on Saturday, March 13, 2021 from 9am to 11am, followed by a Funeral Liturgy at 11:30am at St. Padre Pio Parish, Our Lady of Pompeii Church, 4680 Dante Ave., Vineland. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, Vineland. Arrangements are by DeMarco-Luisi Funeral Home 2755 S. Lincoln Ave., Vineland.
