Obituary of Jan K. Renovitch

Please share a memory of Jan to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Jan Kristen Renovitch, 72, passed away at her home in Vineland, N.J. on January 9, 2021. She died from complications of dementia after 4 years of steady decline. Jan was born in March of 1948, in Beacon, N.Y. to Andrew and Shirley Renovitch. She graduated from Beacon High School, going on to get a bachelor's in education from Hartwick College and then a master's degree. Jan was a generous, strong, matter-of-fact, and independent person. Jan lived in East Fishkill, N.Y., in a log cabin that she built with the help of her family. Her education led to a career teaching remedial reading at Arlington High School. Jan's parents spent their summers with her in her log cabin. She doted on her nieces and nephews with trips to Disneyworld and piano lessons to list just a very few. Jan made the Christmas holidays special for her parents, siblings, and nieces and nephews each year. An active congregant at the Fishkill Baptist Church, Jan served as treasurer for many years, was part of the choir, and worked to help build the church's new building in the 1990s. She enjoyed being a part of the singles group at her church, where she made many close friends. After retirement, Jan moved with her mother to be closer to her sister, and split her time between Vineland, N.J., and St. Petersburg, F.L. Jan was actively involved in the Paradise Shores retirement community. She played golf, was a member of the bowling league, and enjoyed activities in the community center. Both before and after retirement, Jan was an avid traveler. She enjoyed kayaking trips with friends among many other adventures. She visited 5 continents in her travels over her lifetime. Jan got her nieces and nephews hooked on Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy at a very young age. She taught them many games and how to shuffle playing cards. Jan enjoyed reading and many types of puzzles. Jan was preceded in death by her parents Andrew and Shirley and siblings Mark A. Renovitch and Andrea Slack. She is survived by her beloved nieces and nephews: Matthew Renovitch, James Renovitch, Kristi, Emily, Joy, David, and Charles and 15 great-nieces and nephews. A combined memorial service for Jan, her mother, Shirley Renovitch, and sister, Andrea Slack, will be held on April 17, 2021 at 2pm. The service will be held at Malaga Camp Tabernacle in Vineland, N.J. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the USO.
