Obituary of Charles A. Smith

Charles Anton Smith, 74, of Sun City Center, Florida and formerly of Vineland, NJ, son of the late Charles E. and Eleanor M. (Hvezda) Smith, passed away on Wednesday, June 9, 2021, at Sun City Center Hospice House. At the age of 17, Charlie enlisted in the USMC and served from 1964 to 1968. He proudly served our country in the Vietnam War as a Machine Gunner and completed 18 operations. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal; Presidential Unit Citation; Rifle Marksman Badge; Vietnamese Service Medal with three stars; National Defense Service Medal; Purple Heart; Cross of Gallantry and the Vietnam Campaign Medal. Charlie worked for Vineland Kosher Poultry for over 30 years as a Plant Manager and was affectionately known to many as "Chicken Charlie". He was a member of the Diamond Social Club and a previous Worshipful Master of Masonic Lodge No. 65 in Tuckahoe, NJ. Charlie enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing and playing cards with friends. He was a loving brother, husband, father, and grandfather who will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Vivian (Whilden) Smith; Proud father of six children; Melissa Dodway (Michael) of NC; Tara Totino (David) of VA; Christine Miller (Chris) of Vineland; Korinne Andrews (Larry) of Millville; Debi Murphy of North Jersey and Ryan Smith of Vineland; 11 grandchildren, Kyle, Sergio and Madison Dodway of NC, Lauren and Francesca Totino of VA, Kassandra Durham, Russell Garrison, Kaelyn Canup of Vineland, Macy and Riley Andrews of Millville. Charlie was predeceased by his granddaughter, Rebecca Lynn Totino. In addition to his wife, children and grandchildren, Charlie is survived by his sisters, Patricia Fioresi (Dominick) of Vineland, Linda DeFelice of Newfield and brothers, Gary Smith of FL and Carl Smith of MD. He also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and his beloved boxer, Bella. Family and friends will be received on Friday, August 6th, 2021, from 6pm to 8pm, with funeral services at 7:30pm at DeMarco-Luisi Funeral Home, 2755 S. Lincoln Ave., Vineland.
