Obituary of Madeleine Dale Shade

Madeleine Dale (Danks) Shade of Malaga, NJ entered Eternal Life on April 24, 2023.

Dale was born on June 11, 1949, in Philadelphia, PA. After graduating from Little Flower High School for Girls, she became a corporate secretary. Her first positions were at Philco, where she made lifelong friends, and at Dolly Madison Ice Cream, where she met her husband, Bill. After her children were born, she began her own business designing, creating, and selling crocheted baby layettes. Later, she returned to secretarial work, first as a court transcription typist and later as a legal secretary. Dale was a member of St Matthew Parish in Philadelphia for nearly 40 years. She was active in the parish Outreach Ministry, a member of the Bereavement Committee, and served as a Eucharistic Minister.

After spending over 60 years as a "city girl," she and her husband took what she called their "Leap of Faith" and moved to rural Malaga, NJ. She found that she truly enjoyed the country life and could often be found sitting on her back deck watching the local wildlife.

Dale is survived by her beloved husband of 50 years, William P. Shade, their children Megan (Neal Falciani), Bill Jr. (Elizabeth Hebert), and Scott (Lisa Yott), and their grandchildren Luke, Matthew, Celia, Jude, and Damien Falciani, Mark and Edwin Shade, and Maximillion Yott and Russell, Allison, and Penelope Shade. She is also survived by her brothers William (Patricia) and James (Kathleen) Danks and sister-in-law Margaret Leonard. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Melissa, her parents William and Madeleine (Emig) Danks, her brother-in-law Charles Leonard, and her niece Mary Kate Danks.

A visitation will be held at St. Rose of Lima Church, Newfield, on Friday, April 28, from 10am to 11am, with Mass of Christian Burial immediately following at 11am. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to The Gift of Life Transplant Foundation (Gift of Life Donor Program, 401 N. 3rd Street, Philadelphia, PA, 19123).
