Obituary of Nicholas Dolce
Nicholas Dolce entered eternal rest on September 25, 2023, after a brief illness. He was preceded in death by his parents, Giuseppe Dolce and Concetta (Screnci) Dolce, and his grandson, Dominic Dolce. Nick was born October 20, 1937, the oldest of 5 children, in the town of Santa Caterina dello Ionio, in the province of Catanzaro, in the Calabria region of southern Italy. He emigrated with his mother to the United States in 1953, ending up in South Philly.
Nick began working in bakeries as a teenager to help save money to bring his father and siblings to the United States. Throughout his life he had a strong sense of responsibility and believed in working hard. Nick was a proud member of the Eastern Atlantic States Regional Council of Carpenters; served as a Fourth Degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus; was a member of the Son's of Italy; served as a volunteer fireman in the Malaga Volunteer Fire Department; volunteered cooking meals at the annual Feast of the Assumption at St. Mary Catholic Church in Malaga; and volunteered at Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament weekly bingo cooking meals.
He was an avid vegetable gardener and brought his winemaking and meat preserving customs from the old world. He was generous to both family and friends with the fruits of his labors, including his expert carpentry skills. He discovered golf later in life and made many friends throughout South Jersey at various golf clubs. He was also a life-long dancer and could be found on the dance floor at weddings, New Year's Eve parties, and anywhere else music was playing.
Nick's greatest love was his family. He is survived by the beautiful redhead he married, Virginia (Cesare); his children, Michele Magyarits, Nina McBroom (Joel), and Nicholas Dolce (Danielle), and his grandchildren, Krista Rowland (Michael), Kyle Magyarits, Jr. (Roxan), James McBroom, Gabrielle McBroom, Nicolas Dolce, Gabriel Dolce, Matthew Dolce, and Ariana Dolce.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the following: St Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Newfield; St Michael the Archangel Parish in Franklinville; and Spirit and Truth Ministries in Vineland.
Family and friends will be received on Friday, September 29, 2023 from 10am to 11am, followed by a funeral liturgy at 11am at Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Parish, St. Rose of Lima Church, 104 Catawba Ave. Newfield, NJ.
