Obituary of Julie Ann Gordon
Please share a memory of Julie to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
On the morning of November 6, 2023, Julie Ann (Tolotti) Gordon passed away at home after a year long battle with cancer. She had just recently celebrated her 80th birthday.
Julie was a lifelong Vineland resident and was born and raised in East Vineland, where her family continues to farm today. After graduating from Vineland High School in 1961, she began her first job as a secretary at Glauser Dodge in Vineland. After short periods of time working at local banks and as a school crossing guard, she took a job in the City of Vineland Health Department as a Registrar, where she worked for over twenty years. Following her retirement from the city in 2000, she began volunteering in the gift shop at Vineland Inspira and enjoyed it for several years.
It is fair to say that throughout her life both friends and family benefitted from Julie's passion for cooking, baking, and entertaining. Her skill in the kitchen was second to none and she could always be counted on for a delicious meal, a tray of biscotti, or a bowl of pasta with homemade sauce. Her tins of various Christmas cookies will be sorely missed. In addition to feeding everyone, Julie enjoyed her neighborhood friends, the Class of '61 lunch group, playing cards and games, and above all, spending time with family. She was fond of shopping trips, NYC shows, and traveling with her husband. Her favorite and most treasured role was that of "Mommom." She was delighted in her grandsons Caden and Jace, and never missed a game or an opportunity to share their photos and accomplishments to anyone and everyone she met.
Julie is survived by her husband of 29 years, Dexter L. Gordon Jr. of Vineland, New Jersey and Aberdeen, Mississippi; her beloved daughter and son-in-law, Dayna (Adams) and Mark Quiles of Vineland and their sons, Caden Anthony and Jace Charles; her daughter, Danine (Adams) Harnes and her husband Rick, of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho; her sister, Marie Herring (Bill) of Vineland; her brother, Joseph Tolotti (Susan) of Vineland; and a much loved family of nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles. Julie was preceded in death by her parents, John J. and Frances (Viola) Tolotti of East Vineland and her dear sister, Joanne Tolotti.
A viewing will be held on Thursday, November 9, 2023, from 10am to 12pm at DeMarco-Luisi Funeral Home, 2755 S. Lincoln Ave., Vineland. A Funeral Liturgy will follow at St. Padre Pio Parish, 4680 Dante Ave. in East Vineland at 12:30pm. It was Julie's express wish that loved ones forgo flowers and instead make donations in her memory to "Wigs and Wishes" of Sewell, NJ, whose mission is to provide free wigs to women and children undergoing chemotherapy. Her firsthand experience with this local organization and its founder, Martino Cartier, was nothing short of amazing. The day she spent at the salon deeply affected her and allowed her to face the rest of her cancer journey with a confidence she thought she'd lost.
