Obituary of Robert G. Stewart
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Robert Stewart of Vineland, NJ. A beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend. Robert peacefully departed this life on January 11, surrounded by his loving family. He was 96 years old.
Born December 10, 1927 to proud poultry farmers, Robert grew up alongside his two siblings, Catherine (Franceschini) and Andrew. From a young age, he developed a strong work ethic and a sense of duty, values that would guide him throughout his remarkable life.
At the age of 17, Robert embarked on a new adventure, joining the Navy to serve his country. He dedicated himself to his duties on a mine sweeper, displaying courage and commitment to safeguarding the seas.
After his honorable service, Robert returned home and transitioned into civilian life. He ventured into the business world, establishing Stewart Bros. Used Cars. In addition to his business pursuits, Robert was known for his generosity and community involvement. He devoted time to maintaining the grounds of the local school in Dorothy. You could always find Robert "at the farm" where he enjoyed working on cars, collecting antiques, and chatting with friends that would stop by.
Family was at the center of Roberts's heart, and he found immense joy in the accomplishments and activities of his loved ones. He took particular delight in watching his granddaughters participate in softball and cheerleading, supporting them with pride and enthusiasm. In addition to taking his granddaughters to school, shopping trips, and teaching them how to drive, he was also the favorite caregiver of his four-legged grandchildren as well, as he took on "doggy day care" duties.
Robert was a devoted fan of the Philadelphia Phillies and NASCAR, and never missed a night of Jeopardy on TV.
Robert Stewart leaves behind a legacy of honor, resilience, and love. He will be remembered for his service to his country, his entrepreneurial spirit, and his unwavering support of his family. He is survived by his devoted wife of 61 years, Sonja, his loving daughter Kathleen and son-in-law Joe Trovarelli, granddaughters Samantha (Ken) Barbagli, Kaitlyn (Michael) Daly, great grandchildren Giada Daly, Mila Barbagli, Mace Daly, Ella Barbagli, nephew Kerry (Donna) Stewart, niece Renee Stewart, and nephew Dean Stewart and grand dog Humphrey. May he Rest In Peace, surrounded by the memories of a life well-lived.
The family would like to thank NJ Hospice for helping during this most difficult time. Special thanks to Cindy, Danielle, and most especially Holly.
Friends and family will be recieved on Friday January 19, 2024 from 10:00am to 11:00am followed by a memorial service to celebrate Robert's life at 11:00am at DeMarco Luisi Funeral Home.
