Obituary of Samuel Gonzalez
Samuel "Sam" Gonzalez, 84 of Vineland went to be with the Lord on April 15, 2024 after a brief illness. He was born in Utuado, Puerto Rico to Anselmo "Chemo" Gonzalez and Carmen Matos Gonzalez.
In 1952 at the age of 12 his family moved to Vineland where he attended Sacred Heart School and was also a newspaper delivery boy.
He worked at Major Coat Clothing in Bridgeton for 30 years. Along with his brothers he owned/operated a Vineland Yellow Cab for 20 years. After returning to Vineland from Florida, he worked for the Vineland Public Schools as a security guard for 12 years. Prior to his brief illness, he worked for the City of Vineland as a crossing guard at Memorial School.
Sam is survived by his wife of 64 years, Ana Larriu Gonzalez; his children, Sam Gonzalez Jr. (Tish), Evelyn Rodriguez (Robert), Kenny Gonzalez (Susan); grandchildren, Sammy Gonzalez (Carolina), Brianna Gonzalez (Elvis) and Michael Mendez and 5 great grandchildren; sisters, Nydia Narvaez (Ray), Esther Hernandez of Florida and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his brothers, Eduardo Gonzalez, Robert Gonzalez and Jorge Gonzalez and his parents, Anselmo "Chemo" Gonzalez and Carmen Matos Gonzalez.
Family and friends will be received on Monday, April 22, 2024 from 10am to 11:30am with a funeral liturgy to follow at 11:45am at Divine Mercy Parish, 23 W. Chestnut Ave., Vineland. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Vineland. Arrangements by DeMarco-Luisi Funeral Home, 2755 S. Lincoln Ave., Vineland.
