Ronald K. Shimp, 75, of Newfield, passed away Wednesday, September 18, 2013 at Our Lady of Lourdes Medical Center in Camden. Born in Salem, Ronald served in the Fire Brigade of The U.S. Air Force and was the former Captain of the Newfield Police Dept., and former Fire Chief of the Newfield Fire Dept. He was a truck driver for SJ Fireworks in Vineland, he also worked for Moore's Trash Service, Waste Management, a farm in Cedarville and Dare's Feed. Ronald was a member of the Newfield Fireman's Association since 1976, he was named Man of the Year in 1971 by the Newfield Ambulance Corps, was awarded a Certificate of Appreciation by the Newfield Jaycees in 1975. Ronald was also given an award for best appearing apparatus during a Mardi Gras Parade in 1984 by the Vineland Jaycees and received a certificate from the Division of Civil Defense-Disaster Control Dept. of Defense for heavy rescue training in Hammonton. He was predeceased by his parents Anne Flanagan and Samuel Shimp, grandson Justin Cox, Brother-in-law Elmer Sprouse, and best friend Dennis. Ronald is survived by his wife of 50 years Ruth (Moore) Shimp, daughter Loretta Smith (Eric), two sisters Judithann Sprouse, and Rebecca Pierce (Robert), Grandchildren Billy Cox and Shanna Cox, great grandchildren Kayla Cox, Jewelia Cox, and Elliete Zimkouski, one niece Sharon, and two nephews Mark and Ronnie. A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday at 11am at the DeMarco-Luisi Funeral Home 2755 S. Lincoln Ave., Vineland. Ronald will be laid to rest at Rose Hill Cemetery, Newfield. Friends will be received on Tuesday from 6-9pm and Wednesday from 9-11am at the funeral home.
