Hector Torres, 59, of Milmay, went home to be with the Lord on October 2, 2013. He was born to the late Juan Luis and Ana Maria (Pacheco) Torres on May 16, 1954 in the Bronx, New York. The family relocated to Buena, New Jersey in August of 1969. Hector attended Vineland High School and was later employed by Xerox Corporation. In December of 1971, he married Mercedes (Gonzalez) and they were blessed with two children, Juan and Carmen Delia. When forced into early retirement from Xerox, his passion for building led him to pursue his own construction company, Torres Engineering. When the company dissolved in 2010, he began working with his nephew, Ed Torres, at America's Patriot Fence in Minotola, NJ. In his spare time, Hector enjoyed helping his family and friends with many household projects. He was a self-taught, highly skilled mechanic, electrician, plumber, and carpenter. Although he was considered a Jack-of-all-trades, he is best known for building backyard decks. Hector enjoyed being surrounded by family. He was known for cooking Sunday morning breakfast at home and manning the grill at family barbecues. He enjoyed playing dominos, poker, and horseshoes. He is predeceased by his parents, Juan Luis and Ana Torres; brothers Jose "Joe", Luis, and James. Hector is survived by his wife, Mercedes (Gonzalez) Torres of Milmay; mother-in-law, Carmen Ana (Marzan) Gonzalez of Milmay; his son, Juan Torres and grandson, Miguel Antonio of Buena; daughter, Carmen Delia (Torres) Bryant, son-in-law, Taman and grandchildren, Kyra Jana, Kendal Jolie, Kaden Javon, and Kaleb Jarel of Vineland; his brothers, J. Peter of Buena and Robert of Landisville; sister, Ana Rivera and brother-in-law, Edward of Florida; sister, Sandra Lee Torres-Gonzalez of Newtonville; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30am on Monday, October 7th at Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Parish, St. Michael's Church, Minotola, NJ. Hector will be laid to rest at Our Lady of Victories Cemetery, Landisville. Family and friends may gather at DeMarco-Luisi Funeral Home, 2755 S. Lincoln Ave., Vineland on Sunday, October 6th from 5pm - 8pm and again on Monday, October 7th from 9am - 10:15am at the church.
