Obituary of Robert C. Albrecht
Please share a memory of Robert to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Robert C. Albrecht, Sr., 84, of Vineland, died Sunday afternoon surrounded by his family. He was born in Brooklyn, New York to Francis and Hazel (Gilbert) Albrecht. The family moved to Vineland and Dad attended Vineland High School playing varsity baseball and basketball. He graduated in 1949. When the Korean War began, he enlisted in the Marine Corp. Dad returned from Korea and married his high school sweetheart, Christine. There were six children from that union.
Dad owned and operated Bob Albrecht's Tires and Service with his sons. He was active in the Semper Marine Detachment and served as Commandant, inducted into and a member of the Chapel of Four Chaplains, past Commander of the American Legion Post 4, a member of the VFW and former Chairmen of the Cumberland County Veterans Council. He served as president of the Vineland Little League and was instrumental in the development of Senior League. He helped to build Cunningham Park, worked with Toys for Tots, volunteered at Sacred Heart Parish, served on the Cumberland County Veterans Cemetery Committee, was a member of the Devil Dogs Pound 96, and generally lent a hand where ever it was needed. He received numerous other awards for his service.
His love of sports continued throughout his life. He was a catcher for the Charlie's Liquor Store and Melini Goodyear baseball teams in the Greater Vineland Baseball League. He was inducted into that league's Hall of Fame in 2002. One of his greatest moments while playing in the league came at the bottom of the 9th inning when he hit a homerun to tie the score. The game lasted 21 innings and was one of the longest games played at Landis Park. His friend, Junie Quinesso, who retold this story, cannot remember who won the game.
Dad loved parades, a good barbecue, celebrating the holidays, dancing with us and watching any and all sporting events. He worked long hours and several jobs at a time to provide for his family. He loved the Marine Corp and honored that commitment through service. A family could not have asked for a better husband, father, grandfather and friend. He loved us and showed it by taking care of us and standing behind us even when we were not perfect or acting our age.
Dad was predeceased by his wife, Christine (Cianciarulo) Albrecht and is survived by : Donna Meyer and her husband, Russ of Stuart, Virginia, Robert Albrecht Jr, of Dorothy, NJ, Kathy Maione and her husband, Ralph of Three Oaks, Michigan, Douglas Albrecht and his wife, Sophia of Vineland, Christopher Albrecht of Vineland and Andrea Albrecht-Haines and her husband, Christopher of Churchville, Pennsylvania. His sisters are Lynda Feaster and Evelyn Eckbold, both of Vineland. He has 9 grandchildren, Nicole Granato, Melissa Maione, Robert Albrecht III, Megan Young, First Lieutenant Allen Touchstone (serving in the Middle East), and Aubree Touchstone, Emily and Benjamin Haines, and Samuel Albrecht. He has 2 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
As a tribute to dad, please find your loved ones and tell them how much you care, do a kindness for a stranger, be patient with someone and serve your community. A Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated on Saturday at 11am at Christ the Good Shepherd Parish, Sacred Heart Church, Vineland. Robert will be laid to rest at Oak Hill Cemetery, Vineland.
