Obituary of Edwin Zayas

Edwin M. Zayas, fondly known by his loved ones as "Buby", age 53, asked for Jesus hand home on November 24, 2015. Edwin was born May 6, 1962, in Barranquitas Puerto Rico to Margarito Zayas-Torres and Felicita Padilla of Vineland. Edwin had many friends as they were easily drawn by his jovial laughter and smile. As a young man, his dream was a career in law enforcement. He began his career in 1981 with security in the casino industry of Atlantic City. He also worked as a black jack dealer for a period. Edwin reached his goal and became part of New Jersey Department of Corrections as a Correctional Officer in 2001. He had a passion for health, fitness and martial arts. He loved to motivate those around him to exercise. Edwin loved outdoor adventures, exotic fish, his favorite color was yellow and Halloween was his favorite time of year. Pre deceased by his grandparents and father, Margarito Zayas-Torres. "Buby" was blessed with a large and loving family, which he leaves behind to cherish his memory. A loving mother, Felicita Padilla, siblings; Jose O. (Jenny) Zayas, Jose D. Zayas and sister, Evelyn Rivera, his beloved children; daughters, Leonides "Jasmin" (Frankie) Calderon, Jocelyn "Jocie"(Evarito) Calderon, son Anthony(Cassandra) Zayas, from his first wife, Blanca Diaz. He also has seven grandchildren, who were his pride and joy Alex, Sam, A'marie, Lillian, Elyjah, Alessandra and Ethan. In addition Edwin will be missed by Maribel Martinez who he regarded as his soul mate. He will forever be remembered by a many nieces, nephews, aunts, and cousins. Lastly Edwin will be remembered by many friends and brothers in the Department of Corrections & Fraternal Order of Police. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 8:30pm at DeMarco-Luisi Funeral Home 2755 S. Lincoln Ave., Vineland. Burial will be private. Family and friends will be received on Tuesday from 6pm to 9pm at the funeral home.
