Obituary of Catherine Somers

Catherine M. Somers, 98 of Newfield, NJ passed away on Friday, February 12, 2016 at Kennedy University Hospital, Washington Township, NJ. Born in Camden, NJ, Catherine was the cafeteria manager with the Newfield Board of Education. She also was head cook for the Holly Shores Girl Scout Council at their summer camps. She was a member of the Newfield United Methodist Church and enjoyed camping, bird watching and crocheting. She is predeceased by her parents; William and Maybell (Vanaman) Gardner, her husband, Ernest Somers; brothers, Edward Gardner and Nick Vanaman. Catherine is survived by her son, Edward Somers, Sr. (Renee); daughter, Patricia Ross (Carolyn); grandchildren, Kathy Dickson (Marty), Edward Somers, Jr., Roxanne Ross (Brenda), Richard Ross (Wendy), 5 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday at 11:30am at the Newfield United Methodist Church, Columbia Ave., Newfield. Catherine will be laid to rest at Rose Hill Cemetery, Newfield. Family and friends will be received on Wednesday from 10am to 11:15am at the CHURCH.
