Ramona (Reyes) Alvarado, of Vineland, went to be with the Lord on February 13, 2016. Visitation will be held at DeMarco-Luisi Funeral Home, 2755 S. Lincoln Ave., Vineland on Friday, February 19, 2016 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and on Saturday, February 20, 2016 at Divine Mercy Parish, 23 W. Chestnut Avenue, Vineland from 9 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. A funeral mass will be held at Divine Mercy Parish on Saturday, February 20, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. with Ramona's brother, Modesto Reyes, officiating. Burial will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Vineland. Ramona was born in Cayey, Puerto Rico to Marcelo and Emilia Reyes on August 31, 1928. She worked as a seamstress, was a long-time member of Local 56 and retired from the Atlantis Hotel and Casino. She was a member of El Centro Catolico del Sagrado Corazon (now known as Immaculate Heart of Mary Church) for 60 years and together with her husband, Bernardino, helped to start many church groups. She was a member of the Culcilio Parroquial, La Ultreya, Cursillistas, Hijas de Maria, Legion de Maria, El Encuentro Matrimonial, and 4-H Clubs. She served as a Eucharistic Minister and Mass Lector. Ramona was an excellent seamstress. Her passion for cooking touched the hearts of many. She enjoyed family picnics at the lake and playing bingo. She dedicated her entire life to church, family and helping the poor. Ramona was preceded in death by her husband, Bernardino Alvarado, and parents, Marcelo and Emilia Reyes; her brothers, Andres Reyes and Hector Reyes, formerly of Jersey City, and sister, Margarita Morales formerly of Millville. She is survived by her brothers: Modesto Reyes of St. Cloud, Florida, Lino Reyes of St. Petersburg, Florida, Donato Reyes and Jesus Reyes of Jersey City, New Jersey, sisters Santa Reyes of Orlando, Florida and Carmen Reyes Aponte of Corozal, Puerto Rico. She is also survived by her son, Jose F. Alvarado, and her daughters, Rose (Eddie Gonzalez) Vargas, Minerva Alvarado, Vicky (Alfredo) Escobar, Maria Alvarado-Bonilla, Alicia (Vanessa) Alvarado; eight grandchildren, Jose Vargas, Diana R. Alvarado, Jason Acevedo, Joseph Alvarado, Alexandria J. Escobar, Jillian R. Bonilla, Meghan E. Gonzalez and Eric J. Gonzalez; and seven great-grandchildren, Sam Vargas, Elijah D. Saez, Naomi G. Saez, Joseph Alvarado, Jr., Alexa Ramos, Jace Ramos, and Brooklynne S. Polt. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Divine Mercy Parish, 23 W. Chestnut Avenue, Vineland, New Jersey.
