Obituary of Marie A. Polhamus

Marie Adele Polhamus, age 92, passed away peacefully Wednesday, July 27, 2016 surrounded by her loving family. Marie was born in Millville to the late Ralph and Elizabeth Newman. She attended St. Mary Magdalen Elementary School and graduated from Millville High School, Class of 1942. After graduation, Marie worked for the T.C. Wheaton Company as a stenographer and typist. In 1946, she married Lawrence Polhamus, the love of her life. She was a homemaker and mother of three children. She cherished all her family ties and enjoyed hosting family dinners. After moving to Vineland in 1962, she became a very active member of Sacred Heart Church serving on the Parish Council and also being a church greeter for many years. She enjoyed crocheting, cooking and baking for family and friends. Marie always had a smile and a kind word to say to everyone—friends and strangers alike. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great grandmother, sister, sister-in-law, cousin and aunt. Those who are here to enjoy the memory of Marie are her daughters, Betty Buglio and Muriel (Arthur) Lewis, her daughter-in-law Margaret Polhamus, her grandchildren Kelly (Mark) Fogg, Larry Polhamus, III, Michelle (Carmen) Petronglo, and Brian (Dawn) Buglio. Her great-grandchildren Mark (Miranda) Fogg, Carlie Fogg, Carmine, Annabella, Brianna, and Gabriella Petronglo, Michelina and Luca Buglio and her great-great-granddaughter Layla Fogg. Also, her sister-in-law Miriam Newman, nephew Ralph Newman, niece Amanda (Frank) Ferzetti, and her great-nephew, Frank Thomas Ferzetti and many in-law relatives, nieces, nephews and friends. Also, the wonderful nurses, aides and nuns at Bishop McCarthy Residence and Inspira/Bayada Hospice Care who offered her friendship, care and compassion. Marie was predeceased by her grandson, Robert Cummines; her husband, of 51 years, Lawrence; her son, Lawrence, Jr; her brother, Ralph Newman and her son-in-law, Dennis Buglio. A Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated on Saturday, July 30, 2016 at 9:30am at Christ the Good Shepherd Parish, St. Isidore's Church, 1655 Magnolia Rd., Vineland. Marie will be laid to rest at Siloam Cemetery, Vineland. Family and friends will be received on Friday evening from 6pm to 8pm at DeMarco-Luisi Funeral Home 2755 S. Lincoln Ave., Vineland and again on Saturday morning from 8am to 9:15am at the CHURCH. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Christ the Good Shepherd Parish.
