Obituary of Luvert Johns

Luvert Johns Jr. of Westampton, N.J. passed away on Aug. 25, 2012 at the Vineland Veteran's Memorial Hospital in Vineland, N.J. He was 84.
Mr. Johns was born in Fairfield, Ala. to Luvert Johns Sr. and Janie Tillman Johns.
He attended Morris High School in Bronx and in his later years, went to Trenton State College to earn a bachelor's degree in Sociology.
Upon graduation from high school, Luvert enlisted into the U.S. Air Force where he served his country during the Korean and Vietnam War as a flight engineer for 21 years.
Throughout his enlistment he was stationed at various Air Forces bases around the world and was the proud recipient of the good conduct medal, as well as three bronze stars.
After retiring from the Air Force, he served two additional years in the Air Force reserves.
After his military service, Mr. Johns worked for the Sears and Roebuck Co. until he retired from there in 1990, and made his home in Westampton for more than 45 years.
Mr. Johns is survived by his wife of 59 years, Clara Johns; his son, Gregory Johns; daughters and son-in-laws, Regina and David McConnell and Lori and Abdul Diallo; his grandchildren: Mzimeli Morris and Marwane Diallo; his sister, Edith Sheppard, as well as several other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his brothers: Timothy, Josepheus, Lemar Johns and his sister, Lovie Browder.
A memorial service will be held at the Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle Veteran's Cemetery Chapel, 350 Provinceline Road, Wrightstown, N.J. on Tuesday, Sept. 4th at 10:30 a.m.
