Obituary of Isabel Figueroa

Isabel (Flores) Figueroa went home to our Lord on September 14, 2012 while living with her daughter Wilma Lopez. She was born on June 15, 1927 to Isaas Figueroa and Maria Concepcin Montalvo in Sabana Grande, Puerto Rico. She was the youngest of fifteen children. Isabel married at a young age and had one son before her husband died of pneumonia early in their marriage. She later traveled to the United States to make a better life for herself and her young son. After relocating to New Jersey, she met and married Hiplito Flores and they settled in Vineland in 1952 where they had two children. They later moved to New York and lived there a few years. She worked at several sewing factories and became a member of the Amalgamated Clothing Workers of America. In 1965, the couple moved back to Vineland. Isabel worked at various jobs including the Fireworks Co., Taormina Food Processing and several sewing factories, including Crown Clothing. Isabel loved learning and was an avid reader. She attended the Vineland Adult Learning Center where she earned her GED. Later, she enrolled in the Vineland Beauty Academy where she graduated, took her state exam and received her license. She later moved back to New York where she lived several years. While there, she worked at several clothing factories and was an election poll worker until retiring in 1991 when she returned to Vineland. Isabel loved her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She also loved sewing, gardening, dancing, playing guitar and bingo. Her parents, her first husband Eladio Moran, and most of her brothers and sisters predeceased her. She will be lovingly remembered by her family including her only remaining siblings, two brothers, Jose Antonio Figueroa and Ernesto Figueroa, both of Puerto Rico; her three children, Octavio (Tavo) Morn and wife Lydia of Brooklyn, NY, Wilma (Flores) Lopez of Vineland, Nelson Flores of Vineland; her six grandchildren Melissa C. (Lopez) Capelli of Vineland, Luis M. Lopez and wife Robyn of Vineland, Nelson Flores, Jr. of Millville, Aisha Flores of Providence, Rhode Island, Candace (Ortiz) Rivera and husband Jose of Galloway Twp, and Isaas Moran and wife Berenice of Brooklyn, NY; and nine great-grandchildren, Lauren Moran, Romeo Johnson, Brianna Lopez, , Isaias Moran Jr., Alysia Johnson, Xavier Johnson, Dominic Capelli, Brooklyn Lopez and Jose Rivera Jr. She is also survived by her former husband and friend Hiplito Flores. Isabel had many friends and acquaintances at Tarkiln Acres, as well as her doctors, Dr. Rekha Seghal and Dr. Sheilja Roy and her caretakers from South Jersey HospiceCare, including Helen, Andrea, Sheri and all the other personnel she met during her illness. Mass of Christian burial will take place on Monday, September 17, 2012 at 12 noon at Divine Mercy Parish, St. Francis of Assisi Church, 23 W. Chestnut Avenue, Vineland, NJ. Interment will be at Siloam Cemetery, Valley Avenue, Vineland, NJ. Friends will be received on Monday at the church from 10:30am to 11:45am.
