Just got back from being extremely isolated overseas. As a result, I'm using 2023 for all of my correspondence dating back to 2017. I apologize for the delay. With great sadness I read of the passing of Gary in 2018. I worked with two great Millville administrators my first 3 years of teaching, from 1977 to 1980 at Holly Heights School. The Golden Years! I retired in 2006 after over 25 years of service. After Gary and Greg Merritt as my principal and vice principal, I was spoiled! The dynamic Quad "C" for 8th grade, with Jack Zellers for Math, Jack Wettstein for Science, Bob Hayes for English, and me for History. What great teachers! My life has been made richer for having walked with such educators! In those days we had no walls between the 4 classrooms in a Quad. And, most certainly, all other administrators after Gary and Greg paled in comparison! They were an effective, professional, honest, hard-working, compassionate, and truly caring team. We were blessed to have them both! Only after I left Holly Heights School did I realize it was a mistake to have transferred to another school. We don't know what we have until we don't! Sometimes it's better to look before you jump! Gary had a great motto which kept everything in perspective and running smoothly: "We're not going to argue policy, but we can argue procedure." What a great man he was! He touched all of our lives and made a positive impact upon the youth of the City of Millville. The world is a better place because of wonderful human beings like Gary Stanker and Greg Merritt. Sincerely, George Loper, retired Millville Teacher.

Juntanee,
Denise and I were really taken aback on hearing of the passing of Gary. He was a good friend and great principal to work for. He was the captain of the ship and always kept it afloat for his staff.
He will surely be remembered and missed by many.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you and all of his family members

My sincerest and deepest condolences to all of you. Gary was not only a great educational leader but a very special person. He will always be remembered by those of us who had the pleasure to work with him, as engaged and kind to all.
Unfortunately, I am out of town and will not be able to pay my respects in person.

Oh JK.. I am heartbroken. I have so many great memories of Gary. He was my first “boss” in Millville but became a dear friend. He taught me that I could stretch my wings and teach more than kindergarten. I did not ever believe I could teach 5th grade but Gary had faith in me... and it paid off. He gave me courage and faith in my abilities. And Sher is right.. I can still see him in my mind at Camp Speers.. singing the songs and doing the skits. So very many memories... they keep rolling through my mind. I will miss him in this world.. it was a better place because of Gary, Love and hugs to you and the girls. What a huge loss!❤️❤️

I’m sorry for the loss of a great man. When I was in 6th grade , I would pop milk cartons and he caught me and made me go around the whole cafeteria and pick up all the ones on the floor! I learned a lesson that day to behave and be a good kid! Thank you Mr. Stanker for teaching me that valuable life lesson! Rest In Peace!

My heart is heavy, not only was Gary a good friend, he was a major influence/mentor throughout my entire teaching career. Like good friends tend to do, we made each other crazy lots of times, but I knew that, no matter what, every decision he made at school was based on his respect for the students and for his faculty and on what he thought was best for them. He truly believed that his staff members knew what was best for their students and way before learning style was a buzz word, he would let us use that knowledge of our students to design and join in on lessons geared toward our students. Some of my favorite memories of Gary are of watching him singing camp songs after meals at Camp Speers Eljabar and watching his face light up when talking about his daughters and grandkids.
Thanks for everything, Gar. I hope you are watching over us from a tree stand on high... ❤️❤️
I am so sorry for your loss, JK and am sending you, Jennifer, Stephanie and families hugs and love.
