My thoughts and prayers are sent to Sal’s wife Marion, all of his children, grandchildren and those those who endeared him.
He was a mentor and a friend, and I cherish the times visiting him and Marion at their home.
Sal was a pillar to our community and will be sadly missed.
Thoughts of being a water girl on the football field will always be cherished. As well as when cutting his hair, telling him about my concern for the crown roads nearby our local bridges needing regraded and causing me to crash my first new car and how’d he make an effort to repair them, which he did.
And a special hug goes out to Debbie, a classmate and friend who’s not seen often enough, I’m sorry for your dear loss.
Embrace the multiple treasury of moments, they will give you strength at such a difficult time.
God bless,
Marilyn Wengert

Tough as nails exterior but you could go to him with any problem and he would help you. He had a way of pushing you beyond what you thought your limits were and got the most out of you. He never rushed you if you had a question about weights, school, football, or life in general. I graduated 26 years ago and to this day I dont think I met anyone like him. He will be truly missed. I'll also never forget when he told us he was the 500 thousand dollar man because he was the backup to Lee Majors in college who became the Million Dollar Man on TV. God bless you Mr. Marchese. I know you are watching down on your family and friends.

Mr. Marchese taught me more than I could explain. Strength, conditioning, diet, respect, hard work, drafting, humor...I could go on and on. Fact is I would not have accomplished what I did in high school and in life without him as part of my foundation. And he did it because he wanted to. For that I am so grateful to have had him as part of my life. I am very lucky. We are all very lucky.
The entire family is in my thoughts.

Mr Marchese was my teacher and coach. Sal realized that some needed a little more attention and was happy to be the guy to give it. Mr Marchese loved football but don't get it wrong,he was a beast on the basketball court. He would beat the young guys in 21 with ease!.... When we loose someone , life is lost..but the relationship is forever. Rest easy

Coach Marchese was the first person to introduce me to football at the college level by taking me to go see a game at Millersville University. Mr. Marchese was also the first to sit me down and say that I should become a teacher and coach. Mr. Marchese also attend our high school graduation party on Stanger Avenue, which meant a lot to Rashaan and I. Well...I’ve been teaching for almost 20 years and I have coached football for 14 seasons. Coach Marchese saw something in me. He will be truly missed.

We think of Sal as a true example of what it is to lay your life down for your friends. Dedicated coach who went beyond coaching and mentored so many. Family man who loved his children and grandchildren. Tough guy with a BIG HEART! He is loved and will be missed. We know you are absent from your body but present with the Lord and always in our hearts.

Mr. Marchese, My coach this man took me into his home in 1973. A turning point in my life I couldn’t go home because I wanted to play ball. Thank you Mrs. Marchese for your support and my closest friend Linda and Sal Jr. and sister Debbie treating me as a family member. This man took Money out of his pocket and supported me plenty of time he was my second father that gave me inspiration to do better in life. He pushed me in football and wrestling and help me to go to college. I love his hard and strong personality that demanded respect, plus his Intimidation ,big as I was I fear him and that was good. (Rest in peace) May God bless the Marchese Family in this time of Sorrow. Love y’all Adolph

Big Sal was definitely a part of the original foundation on which Delsea Regional High School was built upon. Determination, hard work, and a passion for education and athletics is the Sal that I knew. Thanks Sal, to you and your family, for always being there for my son, Joe.
My deepest condolences,
Harry Alexander

I had the privilege of knowing Sal since the late 1960’s. Served on the township committee with him for several years. Used to kiddingly call him Mike Ditka. Sal was probably the most intelligent knowledgeable fearless person I have ever known. R.I.P. my friend.

My coach, mentor and friend. In 1972, a 5' 88lb nervous freshman stepped on the wrestling mat for the first time. On the first day of practice while trying to learn my first wrestling move, Mr. Marchese said to me, "That was well done, what's your name?" He saw something in me that I did not see in myself. I don't think the opportunity to return to Delsea and spend the next 33 years as a teacher, coach and administrator would have happened if not for Mr. Marchese. Nothing but respect and gratefulness.
While he could be tough and intimidating, there was compassionate side that motivated him to do so many things for so many people, often behind the scenes.
It was also an honor to work with his daughter Linda and his son Sal.

Sal pulled me aside as a freshman. He told me what I would need to do to receive a scholarship. Thanks to his mentorship, direction and support, a degree from UCLA would have been impossible to attain. Never forget the memories of seeing him and the other Coaches in Arizona at the Fiesta Bowl when we kicked Miami's but. He taught me how to play the line, both offense and defense. He taught me to be disciplined and tough. Above all, he taught me how to be a good man! Forever missed, but never forgotten! RIP Uncle Sal!
