Obituary of Walter Arthur Scott Brook

Walter Brook, 91, died Tuesday, June 1, 2021 after a brief illness at his home in Vineland, NJ surrounded by his family. Walt was born on August 11, 1929 in Queens, NY and moved to Absecon, NJ in 1930. In 1947 Walt was hired at NJ Bell and retired in 1986 from Lucent Technology after 39 years of service. Then from 1986 to 1992, Walt worked at Resorts Casino. He often shared happy memories about this time in his life. In 1950, while on a job at Ace Glass Inc., Walt met Mary Smith in a chance encounter, and the two were later married on September 20, 1952. Walter and Mary were married for sixty-three years and raised three children together. Walt was a natural hobbyist, and picked up many pastimes over the years, including playing the organ, model trains, gardening, building doll houses, and working on puzzles. In recent years, Walt was an avid volunteer for Inspira Elmer, and very much enjoyed the friendships and company experienced at the hospital. Walt was also a member of the South Jersey Regional Organ Club and the American Theater Organ Society. Walt is predeceased by his wife Mary; his parents, Arthur Scott Brook and Ada DeHaven Brook; and his brother, Edward Cusac. Walt is survived by his three children: Mary McDaris of Deptford (John), Michael Brook of Newfield (Mitzi), and David Brook of Somerdale (Yvonne); six grandchildren: Erin Garton (Rob), Steven Vassallo (Kathryn), Daniel Vassallo (Amy), Matthew Brook, Stephanie Brook, and Anne Marie Brook; and six great grandchildren: Lucas Garton, Jake Garton, Sydney Garton, Jude Vassallo, Ben Vassallo, and Samuel Vassallo; and one brother, Joseph Cusac of Egg Harbour Township (Linda). Family and friends will be received on Monday, June 7, 2021 from 9:30am to 11:30am with funeral services at 11:30am at DeMarco-Luisi Funeral Home, 2755 S. Lincoln Ave., Vineland.
