Autobiography of Gloria Mercedes Giuliano Stefano as told to her daughter Laura Lee on September 30, 2008.
Gloria was born at home on January 19, 1933. She lived at 2131 S. Chadwick Street in Philadelphia, PA. until she married at the age of 19 years old. Her mother's name was Gabriella Dardanelli Giuliano. Her father's name was Luca Giuliano. She had a brother named Michael and two sisters named Catherine and Mary. Growing up they had 5 cats. Her Mom taught one cat tricks. Gloria had 2 turtles also. When she was 17 years old, she was a Senior in high school. She attended J.W. Hallahan Catholic High School. Quote, "I was a violinist in the school orchestra. I was the Assistant Concert Meister." "Saturday morning I would be up at 9am." It was my Dad's custom to treat us to baked goods from a German bakery called Weinrichs. He would come home with a package shaped in a pyramid tied with string. He always brought me two jelly doughnuts with cane sugar because he knew that I didn't like powdered sugar. In January of 1950 we had no TV in the house- just a radio and an old fashioned RCA Victor wind up Victrola. We owned plenty of Enrico Caruso 78 records. My mother enjoyed going to the movies. Her and I would go see a movie on a Sunday at least once a month. My mother loved Rudolph Valentino and Gloria Swanson who became my namesake. I usually did not have a date on Saturday nights. My passion was going to the movies. My favorite actor was Burt Lancaster. A typical weekend would be my Mom playing the piano while I played my violin beside her. My Dear Sweet Pop would doze and at the end of the song, he would clap and say Bravo!! In my early days I remember being very happy but extremely poor. My Mom and Pop were immigrants from Italy and provided for us the best they could. My Mom was 14 when she came over from Italy. She wanted to help her sister raise her children. My Mom worked at Mattera's Bakery in West Philadelphia where she met Luca Giuliano her future husband. It was instant love and while courting her, she ended up with a full bread box. I was a Dreamer. I imagined myself quite an Actress. I was very dramatic. I fell madly in love with my orchestra conductor, Jeno Donath who was Hungarian and I imagined becoming his little gypsy. That dream ended when in June of 1950 , I met the Love of my Life. My Sarduce. We met in Wildwood, NJ on the boardwalk that summer on Friday night at 8:30 pm. He said, "Hi, my name is Bob, what's yours?" And so MY REAL LIFE BEGAN.................

Dear Irene,
I want to express my sympathy to you,
your sisters, and extended family at the passing of your mother.
Only strong, resilient people live to the age of 90, and the example Gloria bequeathed us will be particularly valuable as we face moments of adversity. She was a proud and independent person, feisty and outspoken, not afraid to fight for something or someone that mattered,
the kind of person you want to have in your corner. I studied standard Italian for two years in college, but Gloria's speech was sprinkled with slang words and idiomatic expressions that aren't in the textbooks. She had Italianita, love of Opera, exposure to a great civilization noted for artistic achievement. Unconditional love is an unusual experience, so it is natural that Gloria's children would feel a great sense of loss
at her passing. Fortunately, we share a religious tradition that firmly believes in an afterlife and that all separation from those we love is temporary.
Therefore, may God bless Gloria and hold her in His keeping until the day when we are all reunited never to be separated again, forever and ever.
Love, Dan O'Connor

Gloria was the sunshine in any room,
bigger than life with incredible communication skills. You could talk to her about anything and she would always look at you in the eyes and offer
her thoughts and guidance.
The will and backbone of a Lion, which made her a person you wanted to be around giving you confidence. We were there as she entered the next phase we all will face. She did it with grace, nobility and honor. I will always remember our kitchen table conversations with fondness and warmth.

Your five children: Anthony , Karen,
Laura, Judee, and Irene have been
blessed with good memories of our
loving family growing up on Foster Avenue on the Produce Farm.
We are thankful for the sacrifices you
and Dad made for all of us in our childhood.. And I, Laura can still hear the happy music playing on Christmas morning with Mom in the kitchen making breakfast for us...

Q: What will you never forget about Gloria?
A: Gloria was my boss while I went through college and worked in the ER many years ago. I have worked in many sectors since including business, entertainment, and education and still have not worked for anyone as insightful, encouraging, strict-but loving and genuine as she was. She was a great woman with a great character and heart. We remained friends till the very end. This is her and I at Larry's restaurant not too long ago. I will forever remember my Gloria and all her anecdotes and words of advice. RIP Gloria. R.Bermudez

Our thoughts and prayers extend to all of you who are faced with the displeasure of lousing a loved one to our worst enemy called Death, in these critical situations its normal to feel helpless not knowing where to turn. However, our heavenly creator has assured us in HEB: 6/11 that it is impossible for him to ever forget us, and that all of those that are worthy will soon have the privilege of living on a paradise earth. according to PSALMS:37/29. Meanwhile we can give our thanks to the funeral directors: for their perfectional assistance and their heartfelt concern for the unfortunate friends and families. THANKS!
