Obituary of Norma I. Diaz
Norma Iris Diaz, 64, of Pleasantville, NJ, passed away on May 14th, 2023 during her attempt to recover from health issues at Jefferson Hospital in Washington Township, NJ.
Norma was born in Brooklyn, NY to Marcelino Diaz and Ines Nieves on December 24th 1958. She went to high school at Delsea Regional and graduated in 1977. She went on to attend Glassboro State College, now known as Rowan University. She worked for a chicken factory in Vineland back in 1982. Some few years later she would begin her 30+ year career for the casino industry starting with Caesars, where she worked in housekeeping. She furthered her career by earning her certification in slots. More progress followed her as she moved into bigger and better things, landing a job with Borgata, a day one employee as a slot technician. She enjoyed many memories with her "buddies" whom she developed strong bonds with.
She enjoyed spending time with her grandbabies, watching her favorite shows, going on outings with friends and family. She also liked to journal, collect comics, listen to light jams and pop, and hang out with her pets.
Norma is survived by her daughter, Elena Mercado, of Vineland, NJ. Her 8 grandchildren; Diameliz 24, Miguel 23, Angelina 17, Malanie 15, Logan 12, Jelena 9, Celina 4, Elonai 4 months; Her siblings, Oscar, Hannibal, Lucas, Elizabeth, Diana, and James, as well as 1 niece and 8 nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Marcelino Diaz and Ines Nieves; her grandson, Joshua 3 months old, and her siblings, Yvette, Laura, and Ruth.

As the days went on and the calls of condolences came in, one word was heard repeatedly…Norma was a "strong" woman. She was also compassionate, forgiving, and selfless. Always putting her family first. Did not take anything negative from no one and knew exactly what she wanted. Her strength and courage set a high standard to follow. She was definitely a fighter. She will forever be in our hearts.
Funeral services will be held at DeMarco-Luisi Funeral Home 2755 S Lincoln Ave. Vineland, NJ 08361 on Monday May 22nd, 2023, between 2p-4p. Following, there will be a gathering to celebrate her life starting at 5pm including food and drinks. Details on the location will be shared during the service.
