Dr. Robert C. Ashton Jr., 52, of Fort Lee, N.J., passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, February 11, 2017. Robert was a prominent thoracic surgeon, proud father of Alex and Chloe, and son of Bob and Lillian Ashton, formerly of Vineland, N.J., now residing in Naples, Florida.
Born in Vineland, N.J. he graduated from St. Augustine Preparatory in 1983. He was an honors graduate of Muhlenberg College, Allentown, Pa., graduated cum laude from Medical College of Pennsylvania, completed his residency at Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburg, Pa. and completed his cardiothoracic fellowship at Columbia University Hospital, New York City.
Robert was Chief of Thoracic Surgery and Director at Montefiore Medical Center, Bronx, New York and Chief Thoracic Surgeon at Hackensack University Medical Center, as well as Vice Chairman of the Cancer Center. He was Chief Medical Officer of MYOS Corporation in Cedar Knolls, N.J. beginning 2014.
Dr. Ashton published over 75 original manuscripts and abstracts and had a comprehensive understanding of wellness and preventive medicine. He was regarded as a health care industry expert and contributor on Fox News Channel along with appearances on the TODAY Show, NBC Nightly News, CBS World News, and MSNBC.
He was currently Chief Medical Director at Cambridge Therapeutic Tech, LLC, Teaneck, N.J.
Robert will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and countless people who he helped in the many years as a physician.
